  HELP! I need some answers.....

  i spoke with my jw friend yesterday and was very surprised when she was discussing a woman in her cong that is committing adultry.

  i know the woman and told my friend i am surprised they didn't df her years ago.

  she cheats on hubby on a regular basis but nothing seems to have been done about it.. so, i said, "let me ask you this.

  the golden rule - isn't there a version of that in the bible? there seems to be a version of it in most religions . . .

  violence in kids shows

  ok so after i started the other thread i got to thinking about how the shows can sometimes be too adult themed.. going back to (as clam sort of reminded me) tom and jerry and popeye, even bugs bunny.

  have these toons, which teach our kids various lessons of life, also taught them violence?

  is it a big deal, to the point where we should not let our kids watch them?

  Not that this answers your question definitively, but, I think this 8-year-old girl (and whomever wrote her script) turns the question of violence and the media upside down (as perhaps ought to be done).

  It might offer some insight as to whether or not modern media itself is the culprit; and suggests that there some larger, more historical social issues to address:

  'Violence in society has been around for a lot longer than rap. . .religion and violence and music have gone hand in hand . . . how about "onward christian soldiers and 10 Little Indians, for example" . . . we don't need to be taught religion . . . we need to be taught empathy . . . 'etc.

  i am currently an elder and basically miss at least one meeting a week and never go out in service on sundays and seldom on saturdays.

  I agree with Aude. And know that no matter what decisions or actions you take, if it appears that you are drifting away, you'll get shit from the cong and fellow elders for it.

  The trick is convincing as many fellow jws as possible that what you're doing (education, hobbies, skills-building, etc.) is really for the ultimate benefit of the cong and the future (Paradise) of the Society. It can be done; just prepare your arguments ahead of time; afterall, you've been taught a bit about preparation at the KH, huh? And you have the advantage of knowing the counter-arguments against it ahead of time and you have the support here of many who have "been there, done that" as Aude Sapere suggests.

  Good luck in whatever you do.
